It started because the label kept lying
Goodwala began in a home kitchen in Nagpur, from a small irritation that would not go away: almost every “healthy” date snack on the shelf had something else in it. Glucose syrup to sweeten what was already sweet. Palm oil doing the work of cocoa butter. Sugar alcohols standing in for sugar, so the number on the front of the pack could stay low.
So we started making our own, for our own families first. Each one built on the same date, each with an ingredient list short enough to read out loud. They are rolled, dipped and pressed by hand by a small team of home cooks — which is the honest reason we cannot make thousands a day, and the honest reason they sometimes sell out.
Nothing in the recipes is there to make the pack cheaper. That is the whole idea.
